Overview
The Steps to Resilience framework guides climate adaptation and resilience planners through the process of identifying their local climate-related hazards, identifying pressing community-relevant issues, and developing strategies for collaboratively creating and implementing a climate adaptation resilience plan.
This collection features the following interactive modules:
- Get Started
- Understand Exposure
- Assess Vulnerability and Risk
- Investigate Options
- Prioritize and Plan
- Take Action
-
Get Started
Launch a community resilience project by learning to immediately identify the essential skills, plans, and community engagement strategies required to build a strong foundation. You'll be equipped to organize a clear kickoff meeting and help define the community’s vision and goals, ensuring smooth progress from day one.
-
Understand Exposure
Determine which people and community assets are most susceptible to climate and non-climate hazards by learning to effectively identify their complex relationships. This allows you to delineate the project area and the necessary data to accurately assess potential threats.
-
Assess Vulnerability and Risk
Evaluate the community’s ability to cope with climate change by learning to define and measure vulnerability (sensitivity and adaptive capacity) and risk (probability and impact). You’ll build understanding on how to apply “rulesets,” which directly inform where to focus community resources for maximum impact.
-
Investigate Options
Explore a range of effective and fair resilience options, including nature-based solutions, by learning to identify reliable information sources and connect those sources to specific resilience objectives. This skill enables you to develop resilience options (strategies and actions) that are both innovative and fair for the entire community.
-
Prioritize and Plan
Select the most impactful resilience options by learning to apply common prioritization methods like benefit-cost analysis while considering factors like effectiveness, feasibility, and co-benefits. You will be able to summarize the necessary implementation plan components and address future climate uncertainty to secure project funding.
-
Take Action
Execute the community resilience plan successfully by learning the key steps for implementation, including engaging with the community effectively and securing necessary funding, financing, or a combination of both. You will consider monitoring and evaluation indicators to assess project success and ensure long-term resilience through iterative adaptation.
